On February 19, 2014, the Thai Chamber of Commerce, Singapore Chamber of Commerce, and Malaysia Chamber of Commerce co-hosted the China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone Seminar at the Beijing Fairmont Hotel. AllBright Beijing office partner Jordan Yang delivered a keynote speech entitled New Business Opportunities and Challenges in China – the Launch and Development of the China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone. The seminar was held when China had issued a series of documents on the FTZ but had not clearly explained all of the issues. The participants were from financial institutions, trade and logistics companies or other institutions that had already established operations in the FTZ or planned to do so.

The seminar aimed to analyze opportunities and challenges brought by the FTZ through looking into the background of its establishment, investment environment and related policies and to offer legal guidance on cross-border financial, trade, and other commercial operations in the FTZ. Mr. Yang had a thorough discussion with the audience during the speech and during a follow-on question-and-answer session.
