Dear juries, dear participants of the contest. Ladies and gentlemen.
Some twenty-three years ago, I had a great honor to participate the opening ceremony of Jin Tian Cheng(錦天城) Law Office. I still keep the photo with the first president of the law firm, professor Shi Huanzhang(史煥章).
I have witnessed the great achievements and rapid progress of the law firm starting from a small group. Now, it’s a worldwide recognized big law firm, not only in numbers of lawyers amounting to 4,000, but also to the high quality of service your firm have offered. I am more than happy to say a few words at this very much moment of the final stage of the English and Japanese language contest of your law firm this year. Because personally I strongly believe a competent and qualified lawyer to practice worldwide, like your law firm requires. It is so important we need to build up our ability based upon three major elements. The first and foremost, of course, is the legal background of the education and service for each and every one of you. And second, a very thorough understanding of the international, political and economic situations, because the world situation today, including in the sectors of politics and economies, we have seen, and we are going to see, the dramatic, rapid, and immense changes today.
The change is so unprecedented for a decade. The change itself is a big change in the whole world, in the whole time, as well as in the whole issues, reflecting in a daily life, and reflecting in all members of this international community.
Therefore, to know something of everything is so important for a competent lawyer and at the same time to know everything of something, to be an expert or to be a very academic based lawyer, is so urgently needed. How to achieve that? I believe language ability is so important. Because firsthand information, firsthand books, documents, whatsoever or something we need to get through easily, precisely, and correctly, let alone to say to reach the degree of accuracy. So, I encourage young lawyers in a law firm to practice more of foreign languages because they are tools. We are using tools to reach our aims. If you can have a group WeChat of all the participants of the English contest today, I believe the number is 30. Personally, I'd like to join your WeChat group, because we can have much more freer and instant talks whenever we need.
And at the same time, I hope the contest of next year will go beyond the scope and boundary of a law firm to let more and more people to believe to become a competent and qualified lawyer language is a must.
Finally, my warmest congratulations to all participants, not only to the winners, because winning of a certain contest is just a part of the history of yourself. However, to well use a language for your future is lifelong struggle. All the best to all of you. Thank you.

二十三多年前，我很榮幸地參加了錦天城律師事務(wù)所的開業(yè)典禮。我依然珍藏著我與錦天城第一位主任史煥章教授的照片。我見證了這個(gè)律所的巨大成就和迅速發(fā)展，從一個(gè)小團(tuán)隊(duì)成長為了現(xiàn)在的大型全球知名律所，不僅律師人數(shù)多達(dá)4000人，而且提供高質(zhì)量的服務(wù)。
我很高興能在今年錦天城英語和日語口語比賽這一特殊時(shí)刻致辭。因?yàn)槲覀€(gè)人深信，一個(gè)稱職的、合格的律師要如錦天城一樣提供全球服務(wù)，提升自我的以下三個(gè)要點(diǎn)，至關(guān)重要：
首先最重要的，當(dāng)然是是你們每一位的教育和服務(wù)中的法律背景。第二是對全球政治、經(jīng)濟(jì)形勢的全面認(rèn)識。因?yàn)樵诮裉斓氖澜缧蝿葜校ㄔ谡魏徒?jīng)濟(jì)領(lǐng)域中，我們已經(jīng)看到且將會繼續(xù)看到激動人心的、迅速的、巨大的變化。這樣的變化在過去十余年中是史無前例的。這個(gè)巨大的變化，發(fā)生在全世界、全時(shí)代，體現(xiàn)在我們的日常生活、國際社會每個(gè)人的方方面面。因此，對萬事萬物都有一定的認(rèn)知，對一個(gè)稱職的律師非常重要。同時(shí)，對某樣事物無所不知，成為一個(gè)專家型、一個(gè)學(xué)者型的律師，亦是義不容辭。
如何做到呢？我相信語言能力非常重要。因?yàn)槲覀冃枰軌蜉p松、精準(zhǔn)、無誤地獲取第一手信息、書籍和文件等等，更不用說所需要達(dá)到準(zhǔn)確性的程度。因此，我鼓勵(lì)事務(wù)所的年輕律師在外語學(xué)習(xí)中多加練習(xí)，因?yàn)樗麄兪枪ぞ撸覀兡苁褂眠@些工具達(dá)到我們的目的。
如果有一個(gè)貴所所有英語參賽者的微信群，我相信有30個(gè)參賽者，我個(gè)人希望能加入這個(gè)微信群，有需要時(shí)我們就能更加自由、便捷地討論。同時(shí)，我希望明年的比賽可以超越一個(gè)律所的范圍和邊界，能使得更多人相信，為了成為一個(gè)稱職的、合格的律師，外語非常重要。
最后，我對所有參賽者，不僅僅是獲獎?wù)撸乱宰钫\摯的祝愿，因?yàn)樵谝粋€(gè)比賽中獲勝只是你個(gè)人歷史的一部分，但在將來良好地運(yùn)用外語是個(gè)終生的課題。
